Historical Walking Tour (60 or 90 minutes)

Experience the unique, “lively experiment” beginnings of Newport in this one-mile tour and hear the history and stories behind the city’s major milestones. You will see the site of the spring around which the first Newport settlers built their homes, the oldest house in Newport that is now an upscale restaurant that was a favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy, the house where General George Washington planned the victorious Battle of Yorktown, and the former YMCA that a Vanderbilt descendant funded.

Cliff Walk Tour (60 or 90 minutes)

This easy-walking tour, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and mansions on the other side, covers 3/4 mile from the Forty Steps south to The Breakers mansion. The walk passes seven mansions—which hold secrets to be revealed on the tour!—and the campus of Salve Regina University, and includes views of other mansions. You will hear history and intriguing stories reaching back to 1639 when Newport was founded.
